Biography

Marion Orr is the inaugural Frederick Lippitt Professor of Public Policy and a Professor in the Department of Political Science and Urban Studies at Brown University. Prior to his current position, he was a faculty member at Duke University. He holds a B.A. degree in political science from Savannah State College, an M.A. in political science from Atlanta University, and a Ph.D. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park. Orr served as Director of the Alfred Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University from 2008 to 2014 and was chair of the Department of Political Science. His scholarly work focuses on American politics, urban politics, race and ethnic politics, and African-American politics. He is an accomplished author and editor of eight books, including 'House Diggs: The Rise and Fall of America's Consequential Black Congressman, Charles C. Diggs, Jr.' His work has received numerous accolades, including the Policy Studies Organization's Aaron Wildavsky Award. Additionally, Orr has held various leadership roles within professional organizations and has served on editorial boards for prominent political science journals.
