Dr. Marion Vacheret

Biography

Marion Vacheret graduated from the University of Caen with a Bachelor's degree in Law, obtained a Master's degree in Law from the University of Paris II, and earned both a Master's of Science and a Ph.D. in Criminology from the University of Montreal. She is a full professor at the School of Criminology at the University of Montreal and a regular researcher at the Droit, Changements et Gouvernance Research Group. Her research focuses on the penal policies and practices in Quebec and Canada, particularly on the correctional management of individuals who are judicialized in both community settings and closed environments. Vacheret employs qualitative methodologies, including ethnography, interviews, and observational studies, to analyze the lived experiences of justice-involved individuals and the professional practices of interveners. She has expertise in prison sociology and Canadian penal policy, and she teaches in the field of penal and prison sociology. In addition to her primary appointments, she serves as an associate professor at the University of Pau and the University Montesquieu Bordeaux IV. Her contributions to the understanding of the penal system inform reflections on the role of incarceration in the penal archipelago.
