Biography

Marios Polycarpou is a Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London and the Director of the KIOS Research Innovation Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus. He is a member of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts. He earned his B.A. degree in Computer Science and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Rice University, USA, in 1987, followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1989 and 1992, respectively. Polycarpou's teaching and research interests include intelligent systems networks, adaptive learning control systems, fault diagnosis, machine learning, and critical infrastructure systems. He has published over 400 articles in refereed journals and edited books and proceedings, and co-authored seven books. He holds six patents and has received the 2016 IEEE Neural Networks Pioneer Award, among other accolades. His work has been recognized with a fellowship from both IEEE and IFAC, as well as the 2014 Paper Award from the journal Building Environment (Elsevier). Polycarpou has served as the President of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and the European Control Association, and was the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems from 2004 to 2010.
