Biography

Marisa C. Nielsen holds a B.S. in Microbiology and an M.S. in Environmental Microbiology from the University of Arizona, followed by a PhD from the University of California, Irvine. She has spent a decade working in clinical microbiology, during which she completed a Clinical Microbiology Fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Nielsen is a certified Specialist in Microbiology, recognized by the American Society for Clinical Pathology as a board-accredited Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology. Her research interests focus on infectious disease diagnostics and microscopy, particularly concerning high-consequence pathogens and acquired environmental exposures. Currently, she serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, and she is also the Director of Clinical Microbiology at Boston Medical Center, holding a faculty appointment at the BU-BMC Cancer Center.
