Dr. Marita Inglehart

Biography

Marita R. Inglehart is the University Diversity Social Transformation Professor and a Professor of Dentistry in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan's School of Dentistry. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). With a notable academic background, Inglehart received her education from the University of Mannheim in Germany, where she was also a faculty member. She transitioned to the University of Michigan in the 1980s as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Psychology and has maintained roles in both psychology and dental education since then. Her research primarily focuses on the social determinants of health and patient-centered outcomes in healthcare. She is committed to advancing educational practices that prepare future dental professionals to understand and value interprofessional education, as well as to embrace civic responsibility within their practice. Inglehart has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Dental Education, the official journal of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), for nine years and has actively contributed to the ADEA as a chair of the Behavioral Science section and as a consultant on various occasions. Additionally, she is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (APS).
