Dr. Marius Hoogerboord

Biography

C. Marius Hoogerboord is an Associate Professor in the Division of General Gastrointestinal Surgery at Dalhousie University. He holds multiple qualifications including MB ChB, MMed, MSc, FCS(SA), FRCSC, and FACS. He is also the Director of Quality Improvement and Service Chief for the Minimally Invasive Service. His research interests focus on global health, with particular emphasis on simulation training and telementoring in low and middle-income countries. Dr. Hoogerboord is dedicated to improving access to surgical care and developing academic partnerships that enhance local teaching and research capacities. His clinical interests include advancing surgical management of benign foregut disease and complex abdominal wall hernias, as well as enhancing perioperative care through Enhanced Recovery Surgery pathways. He has completed his education at prominent institutions such as the University of the Orange Free State, the University of Stellenbosch, and Dalhousie University. Notably, he has contributed to the Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship Program as Associate Program Director, focusing on training future surgeons in advanced surgical techniques. He is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and actively participates in collaborations to improve surgical practices on a global scale.
