Biography

Mariya Grinberg is an associate professor in Political Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her primary research examines states' trade with their enemies, exploring product-level temporal variation in wartime commercial policies in relation to enemy belligerents. Additionally, her broader research interests focus on how time and uncertainty shape strategic decisions of states, particularly in relation to order formation, military planning, and state sovereignty. Grinberg earned her PhD in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 2019, and has served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for International Security Cooperation at Stanford University and the Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College. She holds a Master’s degree from the University of Chicago’s Committee on International Relations and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California. Grinberg has engaged in several fellowships, including as a pre-doctoral fellow at the International Security Program at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard’s Kennedy School and as a Smith Richardson pre-doctoral fellow at the International Security Studies Program at Yale University.
