Biography

Marja Inkinen Engström, born in Helsinki, Finland, is a lecturer in Classical Music and Church Music at the University of Gothenburg. She serves as the principal violin in the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra since 1998. Marja teaches violin, orchestra playing, and chamber music at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, where she has been involved since 2002. Additionally, she has contributed to various educational programs as a violin teacher, coach, and instructor for young individuals. Marja is a member of the Gothenburg Baroque and has collaborated with the AVANTI! Chamber Orchestra and Tapiola Sinfonietta in Finland. Her studies in violin playing at the Sibelius Academy under Professor Tuomas Haapanen culminated in a Master's degree. She holds a soloist diploma and a pedagogue diploma from Utrechts Conservatorium, Netherlands, and has studied with prominent violinists across Europe. Marja has performed as a soloist in Finland, Italy, Holland, Belgium, and Greece, enjoying collaborative performances with notable international artists. She plays a 1668 Francesco Ruggieri violin, generously loaned by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
