Biography

Marjan started studying environmental law in 1987, focusing on understanding how high-level environmental protection can be efficiently and effectively achieved within the context of sustainable development. Her core research focuses on the legal aspects of climate change, including regulatory instruments for reducing emissions and the procedural rights related to environmental law that deal with uncertain risks. Since 2008, she has been a Professor of Environmental Policy Law. Marjan has co-edited multiple significant publications, including 'Greening EU Rule Law: Opportunities and Limits of EU's Legal Powers' and the 'Research Handbook on EU Environmental Law'. She is currently a member of the Greendeal-NET project and has coordinated a free lecture series on strengthening EU environmental law. Marjan supervises various PhD projects in the field of environmental law and is an active member of the Maastricht Centre of European Law as well as other relevant organizations such as the European Environmental Law Forum. She also has practical experience as an environmental lawyer at the Dutch Ministry of Water Management and Transportation and has contributed to several research projects and courses regarding renewable energy and sustainability.
