Biography

Marjorie D. Shapiro received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in December 1984 and joined the Physics Department in 1990. She was a Presidential Young Investigator from 1989 to 1994 and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. Her research interests focus on experimental particle physics, particularly probing basic interactions in nature. She investigates theoretical extensions of the Standard Model and searches for new phenomena related to quarks and leptons at high energies. Shapiro is a member of the ATLAS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider and collaborates closely with scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (LBNL). Her research topics include searches for TeV scale gravity, Supersymmetry, and measurements of the Higgs boson properties, among others. Beyond physics analysis, her group is involved in detector operations and the development of software to enhance detector performance, including contributions to the LHC Phase II upgrade.
