Dr. Mark Bicket

Biography

Mark Bicket is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan Medical School, specializing in anesthesiology. He is a clinician-scientist and practicing physician anesthesiologist focused on pain management interventions aimed at reducing opioid-related harms. His research has been published in prestigious journals including JAMA and BMJ. Notably, Dr. Bicket is the Principal Investigator of the PCORI-funded CARES trial, which examines postoperative pain treatments and patient-reported outcomes. He completed his MD and PhD at Johns Hopkins University, where he also served as Chief Resident in anesthesiology. Additionally, he has undergone fellowship training in pain medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. His leadership roles include Director of a nationally recognized Pain Medicine Fellowship Program at Johns Hopkins, where he developed system-wide pain management policies. Dr. Bicket has also played a significant advisory role at the federal level, consulting for the White House, the National Academy of Medicine, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. He holds board certifications in pain medicine and anesthesiology and is a Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
