Biography

Mark Biondich is a Contract Instructor at the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at Carleton University. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. His academic focus includes the modern Balkans, with particular emphasis on nationalism, fascism, political violence, democratization, and minority issues. Biondich is currently completing a historical study on Croatian fascism from 1929 to 1945. He teaches courses on the Balkans, notably a seminar focusing on the post-Communist transition in Southeastern Europe. In addition to his teaching, Biondich has published a significant body of work, including his book “The Balkans: Revolution, War and Political Violence 1878,” published by Oxford University Press in spring 2011, along with more than a dozen articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and contributions to multi-authored books that address topics in twentieth-century Balkan history, particularly relating to Yugoslavia.
