Mark Brockman received his PhD in Virology from Harvard University in 2001 and completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. In 2007, he was appointed an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Brockman joined Simon Fraser University (SFU) in September 2009 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and became part of the Faculty of Health Sciences in September 2011. He is an active member of the Canadian HIV Cure Enterprise (CanCURE). His research focuses on understanding the interface of virology, pathogenesis, and host immune response in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Current studies in his laboratory are directed at investigating the impact of HIV immune escape mutations on cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) recognition, T cell receptor (TCR) function, and the relevance of viral tropism and cellular compartmentalization in disease progression. His lab develops in vitro strategies to examine HIV protein function and host T cell activity, enabling unique population-level analyses that support vaccine development for HIV/AIDS. Throughout his career, Brockman has published a total of 42 peer-reviewed manuscripts in the fields of Virology and Immunology.
