Mark Campbell joined the faculty of the Sibley School at Cornell University in 2001, where he is currently the John Mellowes ’60 Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He served as the S. C. Thomas Sze Director of the Sibley School from 2011-2019. Prior to his tenure at Cornell, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington from 1997 to 2001. He received a B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University and both an M.S. and a Ph.D. from MIT. Professor Campbell has significant experience in the dynamics and control laboratory, contributing to missions like the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1995. His research focuses on aerospace robotic systems, particularly around control of flexible structures, formation flying spacecraft, and autonomous vehicles. He has conducted research with various organizations, including as a Visiting Scientist at Insitu and Draper Labs, and as an Australian Research Council International Fellow. Campbell is passionate about undergraduate teaching, focusing on active learning and experiential projects. He has received several teaching excellence awards and has been recognized for his research with multiple awards. He is a Fellow of AIAA, IEEE, and ASME.
