Biography

Professor Mark Cannon studied engineering as an undergraduate, completing his MEng in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, graduating in 1993. He also completed a master's degree (SM) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1995. After obtaining his doctorate (DPhil) from the University of Oxford in 1998, he became an Associate Professor in the Engineering Science Department and a Tutorial Fellow at St John's College. In 2025, he was awarded a full Professorship. He is a member of the Oxford Control Group, where he focuses on control optimization systems under constraints and model measurement uncertainty, specifically in relation to feedback control systems. His research interests include constrained optimal control problems and robust adaptive control in various applications involving physical, environmental, and economic restrictions. He is also involved in supervisory control for hybrid electric vehicles, focusing on optimization methods and robust resource allocation.
