Biography

Mark is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cellular and Physiological Sciences at the University of British Columbia. He is also an Investigator at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health and an Associate Member of the School of Biomedical Engineering. His laboratory, opened in 2019, combines a variety of experimental and computational techniques to study the roles of cell types in memory and cognition. Previously, Mark worked as a postdoctoral scientist in the laboratory of Nelson Spruston at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Janelia Research Campus. He earned his MS in 2008 and PhD in 2011 in Applied Mathematics from Northwestern University. Outside of his academic pursuits, Mark enjoys practicing and teaching yoga, handstands, and calisthenics.
