Mark Cruickshank graduated with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Western Australia in September 2007. After earning his doctorate, he undertook postdoctoral training at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in 2011, where he developed methods for generating and analyzing high-throughput DNA methylation data from archived biospecimens. His work focused on foundational data regarding DNA methylation dynamics in humans, particularly the rapid changes that occur in early life. In 2012, he accepted a senior leadership position at the Telethon Kids Institute, redirecting his research towards high-risk leukemia and cancer immunotherapy. His research characterized in vitro and animal models to advance precision medicine in childhood cancer. Currently, as a Senior Lecturer in Genetics at the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Western Australia, appointed in 2020, he has established a research and teaching program focused on genetics and genomics related to cancer and complex diseases. His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals concerning industry and genetics, molecular biology, drug development, and cancer research.
