Mark Dawson was born in Christchurch, Aotearoa/New Zealand, at the end of the century. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Auckland, and he was awarded the Prince of Wales Cambridge Commonwealth Trust scholarship for doctoral studies in the UK. Mark was one of the youngest students at Cambridge's Wolfson College, where he spent several dynamic years dividing his time between the History and English faculties. He received the History Faculty's Members’ prize for his work on the renowned early modern Cantabrigian, Samuel Pepys. He joined the Australian National University as an associate lecturer in 2005. Mark holds an MA (Hons) from Auckland and a PhD from Cambridge.
