Mark de Berg is a full professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), where he chairs the TU/e Algorithms Group. His research encompasses algorithms and computational geometry, including fixed-parameter algorithms, with applications inspired by complex networks and geographic information science. Mark’s primary interest lies in algorithms and data structures, particularly those addressing algorithmic challenges involving spatial data. His current research focuses on algorithms for geometric networks, exact algorithms for NP-hard geometric problems, and the development of spatial data structures. He aims to uncover how to leverage the properties of real-world spatial datasets to find provably efficient solutions. Mark has authored and co-authored several influential books in computational geometry, which have become standard texts in the field. He has published over 225 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences and actively participates on program committees for international conferences in his domain. Additionally, he is involved in the editorial boards of various international journals and is a member of the Computational Geometry Steering Committee. Mark's work has been recognized with prestigious grants, including a VICI grant from NWO, and he currently serves as a principal investigator for the Gravitation Program on Networks.
