Biography

Mark Dincecco is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan. His research analyzes long-run historical determinants of political economic development patterns, focusing on Europe and Eurasia. Dincecco has published numerous articles in leading academic journals in political science and economics. He is the author of several books, including 'Political Transformations and Public Finances: Europe, 1650-1913' (Cambridge, 2011), 'State Capacity and Economic Development: Present and Past' (Cambridge, 2017), and 'Warfare and Wealth: The Military Origins of Urban Prosperity in Europe' (Cambridge, 2017), co-authored with Massimiliano Onorato, for which he won the William Riker Book Award. Dincecco currently serves as an Editor for the Elements in the Political Economy Series for Cambridge University Press. He was also an Edward Teller National Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, during the 2016-2017 academic year. Dincecco obtained his PhD in Economics from UCLA.
