Biography

Mark Flegg completed his PhD in mathematical modelling of aerosol physics, focusing on particle interactions, in 2010 at the Queensland University of Technology. Following this, he held a short postdoctoral position in the field of modelling medical physics and clinical diagnostic mechanisms at the Oxford Centre for Collaborative Applied Mathematics (OCCAM) at the University of Oxford, UK. Upon returning to Australia, he took on a role as a Lecturer at the newly formed Monash Academy of Cross Interdisciplinary Mathematical Applications (MAXIMA). His research interests in applied mathematics are diverse and include Mathematical Biology, Cell Biology, Stochastic Processes, particle motion simulation, and modelling clinical ultrasound in the context of developmental and cancer biology. His expertise is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically contributing to areas that enhance understanding of biological systems and processes. He has been involved in projects focusing on topics such as controlling cell polarity during asymmetric cell division and stochastic mathematical modelling of the Wnt signalling pathway.
