Professor Dr. Mark Friesen

Biography

Mark Friesen is a condensed matter theorist primarily focused on problems related to quantum computing. His main research focuses on the physics of operation of spin and charge qubits formed in semiconductor quantum dots. His research includes the relationship between semiconductor band structure and qubit operation, the detrimental noise affecting quantum devices, and simulations of realistic devices involving many-body qubit wave functions. His projects are closely aligned with ongoing experiments at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and globally. A recent exciting direction in his research involves the transporting or 'shuttling' of qubits to distant regions of a quantum processor. Friesen holds 6 patents and has authored or co-authored 145 peer-reviewed publications, boasting an h-index of 54.
