Mark Hannington is a Professor of Economic Geology and holds the Goldcorp Chair in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Ottawa. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1989 and has spent 15 years as a research scientist at the Geological Survey of Canada before moving to the University of Ottawa in 2005. He has conducted major research projects on the VMS deposits, including the giant Kidd Creek deposit and the gold-rich LaRonde deposit, as well as regional-scale hydrothermal alteration in the Noranda district. Additionally, he served as an editor for the journal Economic Geology from 2001 to 2008.
