Dr. Mark Harding

Biography

Mark S. Harding is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Guelph. His academic background includes graduate work in Political Science at the University of Calgary, where he completed both his MA and PhD. His research and teaching interests include judicial politics, Canadian politics, human rights bills, and the political theory surrounding constitutionalism and political institutions. Prior to joining the University of Guelph, he taught at the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy, where he contributed to the Master of Public Policy (MPP) program. Professor Harding's critical work, 'Judicializing Everything? Clash of Constitutionalisms Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom' published in 2022, examines the expansion of judicial power in Commonwealth states. His broad research endeavors focus on the role of the Supreme Court of Canada and its influence on political institutions and jurisprudence, situating Canada's experience within the wider literature on political legal constitutionalism.
