Biography

Professor Mark Hedger is an expert in men's reproductive health with a PhD from Monash University obtained in 1984. He furthered his studies as a NIH Visiting Fellow in the Gamete Biology Section at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in North Carolina, USA. Returning to Melbourne, he took an Australian Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Department of Anatomy at Monash University. In 1991, Hedger became the inaugural NHMRC Wright Fellow at the Institute of Reproduction and Development (now Hudson Institute of Medical Research) and was later appointed as the Institute’s Senior Scientist and Laboratory Head. His research contributions have earned recognition, including the NHMRC Senior Research Fellowship and the Associate Professorial Fellowship at Monash University. A prolific author, he has published more than 150 scholarly papers primarily focused on male reproductive biology, activin biology, and inflammatory disease within reproductive tissues. Additionally, he serves on various editorial boards, including Andrologia, and has held leadership positions within the Society for Reproductive Biology. His research has implications relevant to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in relation to fertility and reproductive health.
