Born in Sarasota, Florida, Mark Hetzler began playing the trombone at age twelve. He received a Bachelor of Music from Boston University and a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music. Mark was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and completed a three-year fellowship with the New World Symphony, under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. He was a member of the Empire Brass Quintet from 1996 to 2012 and has performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras in various countries including Australia, Taiwan, South Korea, and the United States. Mark has appeared on live television and radio broadcasts across Asia and the U.S., releasing numerous solo recordings through Summit Records that span a wide variety of genres. In addition to performing, he is an active composer, orchestrator, and arranger, blending classical styles with non-classical influences. He composed a trombone concerto titled 'Views of Infinity' and has created works for various ensemble settings. Mark is currently a Professor of Trombone at the University of Wisconsin–Madison's Mead Witter School of Music, where he teaches various trombone courses and co-directs the Low Brass Ensemble.
