Dr. Mark Hochstrasser

Biography

Mark Hochstrasser is the Eugene Higgins Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, with appointments in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Yale University. He earned his B.A. from Rutgers University and his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Francisco. Following his doctoral studies, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. With numerous honors, he is recognized for his contributions to the scientific community, including the Young Investigator Award from the Cancer Research Foundation and being named a Searle Scholar and Fletcher Scholar. He has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering. His research focuses on the ubiquitin system, which plays a fundamental role in regulating various processes within eukaryotic cells, including protein degradation mechanisms critical to cellular function. Hochstrasser's work has significant implications for understanding human diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. He has published extensively in esteemed journals and has served on the editorial boards of several scientific publications, also contributing as an ad hoc reviewer for various research programs.
