Dr. Mark Ide

Biography

Professor Mark Ide has supervised 45 research projects, mostly at the Master's level, and nine PhDs. His research focuses on basic sciences and clinical translational studies investigating dental pain, the links between periodontal health and systemic conditions, and the epidemiology of periodontal diseases. Mark has 25 years of experience in dental education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has served as the Discipline Lead for Periodontology for 14 years, and the Postgraduate/Specialist Programme Lead for 10 years, where he developed curricula using new technologies and evidence-based approaches. His clinical expertise includes Specialist Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry within private practice. Mark is a recognized contributor to dental education and has been acknowledged for his teaching efforts on multiple occasions. He has been actively involved in numerous professional organizations, advocating for the advancement of periodontal practice and education. Mark's research interests include periodontology, periodontal-systemic links, inflammation, and clinical guidelines for the prevention and treatment of peri-implant diseases. He is a member of several national and international societies, and has contributed significantly to research outputs and peer-reviewed articles.
