Dr. Mark Jones

Biography

Mark Ian Jones is an Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) specializing in design history, architecture, and interactive cinema research. He holds a PhD in Design History and a Bachelor of Architecture with Honors from the University of Technology Sydney. Mark’s research focuses on the Swedish and Australian design history, examining the transnational exchange of design ideas during the post-war era. He has written extensively on significant yet underrepresented designers, particularly exploring the work of Vicke Lindstrand in his book, 'Vicke Lindstrand Periphery: Mid-twentieth Century Swedish Design Reception.' Mark has played various academic leadership roles at UNSW, including Deputy Academic Lead for the Student Experience Program and Faculty Director for Education Innovation. His practice encompasses both teaching and curriculum development across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Mark has received awards for his research and has been involved in numerous projects examining the impact of design diplomacy on Australian identity, emphasizing the role of department stores in cultural exchanges.
