Biography

Mark Paul Kim joined the UCLA Anderson faculty in 2019 as an Assistant Professor of Accounting. His research explores the intersections of law and economics, particularly with regard to securities regulation and its effects on capital markets. Notably, Kim's dissertation investigates how shareholders react to public inspection reports revealing Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) violations under different enforcement regimes. Before his academic career, he served in the Republic of Korea Air Force, an experience that garnered attention from the South Korean press as he was recognized as a distinguished Korean American. After an honorable discharge from active duty in 2004, he pursued higher education and a career in academia, reigniting his interest in disclosure regulation, particularly in California's restaurant hygiene rating system. In addition to his professional work, Kim treasures spending time with his wife and daughters and enjoys music and outdoor activities.
