Biography

Mark J. Kushner is the George Haddad Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan. He serves as the Director of the Michigan Institute for Plasma Science and Engineering and the Department of Energy Center for Low Temperature Plasma Interactions with Complex Interfaces. He has been a leading figure in computational plasma science, focusing on developing computer simulations of low temperature plasmas for technologically important applications. Professor Kushner is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and has received several prestigious awards, including the IPCS Plasma Chemistry Award, the AVS Medard W. Welch Award, the NPSS Charles K. Birdsall Award, and the APS Allis Prize. He is a fellow of multiple professional organizations, including the IEEE, the American Physical Society, the Optical Society of America, the Institute of Physics, the American Vacuum Society, and the International Plasma Chemistry Society, as well as the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. Furthermore, he has contributed to the scientific community by co-chairing the National Academies Decadal Study on Plasma Science and Engineering.
