Biography

Mark Langan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of European & International Studies at King’s College London. He joined the department in August 2021, having previously taught at Newcastle University and the University of Leicester. He holds a PhD in International Political Economy from the University of Manchester. His teaching and research focus on international political economy, particularly in the context of African development and the impact of the European Union's trade policies. He is a Mid-Career Fellow of the British Academy, awarded £139,000 for his research examining the trade-development-migration nexus in West Africa in light of UK-EU free trade policies. Mark’s work employs a critical political economy approach to interrogate donor interventions and free trade policies, and he has published widely in these areas, including a recent monograph on neo-colonialism and African development. In addition to his academic roles, Mark is a co-convenor of the UACES Network of EU Africa Research.
