Dr. Mark Leary

Biography

Mark Leary is the Garonzik Family Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Neuroscience at Duke University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from West Virginia Wesleyan College, his Master's degree from the University of Florida, and his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Florida. Leary has held positions at several institutions including Denison University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Wake Forest University. His research focuses on social motivation, emotion, and self-relevant thought and has resulted in the publication of 14 books and over 250 scholarly articles and chapters. Leary's current research explores various facets of psychology, including the implications of intellectual humility in romantic relationships and the complexities surrounding disordered eating behaviors. He seeks to understand the interplay of psychological factors in human behavior and relationships, contributing valuable insights to the field of psychology.
