Dr. Mark Magee

Biography

Mark Magee is a Warwick Prize Fellow working in the Astronomy and Astrophysics Group at the University of Warwick. His research focuses primarily on the study of supernovae, with particular emphasis on thermonuclear supernovae. Magee investigates the end stages of stellar evolution, specifically the role of white dwarfs in binary systems that lead to thermonuclear supernova explosions. His work incorporates both observational and theoretical modeling studies, aiming to understand the diverse explosion mechanisms behind these supernovae. Magee employs machine learning techniques to enhance the analysis of large datasets from supernova observations. His interests include the acceleration of spectroscopic modeling techniques for Type Ia supernovae, which are important distance indicators in cosmology.
