Biography

Mark Mulligan is a Professor of Physical and Environmental Geography at King's College London. He completed his undergraduate degree in Geography at the University of Bristol from 1988 to 1991. Following a brief period with the Royal Geographical Society on a rainforest expedition in Brunei, he moved to King’s College London for his PhD, which focused on hydrology and vegetation change in a degraded semi-arid area under the supervision of Professor John Thornes. Since becoming a Lecturer in Geography at King’s in September 1994, he has made significant contributions to research in environmental monitoring and modelling. Mark has served as a Reader in Geography and received the Royal Geographical Society’s Gill Memorial Award for his innovative work in environmental systems. He is an honorary fellow of the United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre and has also been involved with Texas State University as an adjunct doctoral graduate faculty member. His research interests include climate impacts, hydrology, ecosystem services mapping, and environmental modelling, particularly in tropical and Mediterranean environments. He has supervised numerous PhD candidates and is actively involved in developing decision support tools aimed at improving policy applications in ecosystem service evaluations.
