Dr. Mark Parsons

Biography

Professor Mark Parsons is an internationally recognized leader in Stroke Medicine, serving as a faculty member at the University of New South Wales' South Western Sydney Clinical School and previously at the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. He has made significant contributions to clinical neuroscience, particularly in stroke trials that integrate brain imaging with clinical practice to enhance therapeutic outcomes. His impactful research has led to the publication of over 300 peer-reviewed articles and he enjoys prominent standing in the field, frequently invited as a speaker at both national and international conferences. As the Immediate Past President of the Stroke Society Australasia, he spearheaded multiple initiatives and chaired over 20 stroke conferences. Notably, Parsons is leading major NHMRC-funded trials and has secured more than $35 million in funding for his research initiatives over the past five years. His accolades include several major fellowships and awards recognizing his leadership in neurology research. Despite a major health challenge in 2015, which he overcame through resilience and treatment, Parsons is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of researchers and clinicians, helping them thrive in their respective fields. He continues to engage actively in advancing stroke medicine and improving patient care.
