Biography

Mark Peletier obtained MSc in mathematics from Leiden University (cum laude) and a Diplôme d'Études Approfondies from Laboratoire d'Analyse Numérique (now Laboratoire Jacques-Louis Lions) at Université Paris VI in 1992. He received his PhD from Leiden University in 1997 and continued his academic career at the University of Bath (1997-1998) and the Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science in Amsterdam (1998-2004), later becoming a full professor of mathematics at Eindhoven University of Technology. His research interests focus on differential equations and their applications to real-world systems, covering a broad spectrum from applied to fundamental mathematics. His contributions span biology, geology, chemistry, pattern formation, solid mechanics, and fluid dynamics, as well as the theory of variational calculus and differential equations. Peletier was awarded a VIDI grant in 2003 and a VICI grant in 2011, and was a member of De Jonge Akademie from 2006 to 2011. He has been a visiting professor in London (2000), Bath (2007, 2010-11), and Vancouver (2008) and serves on the editorial board of several international journals.
