Dr. Mark Peterson

Biography

Mark Peterson is a Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he specializes in Public Policy, Political Science, and Law. He earned his A.B. (1977), A.M. (1981), and Ph.D. (1985) from the University of Michigan. Dr. Peterson has served in various prominent roles, including as Chair of the Department of Public Policy from 2002 to 2006. His research primarily focuses on American national institutions, specifically the interactions between the Presidency, Congress, and interest groups, with an emphasis on domestic policy, particularly national health care policy and Medicare reform. His recent book manuscript, 'Hardball Politics, Hobbled Policy: Contexts, Choices, Consequences U.S. Health Reform,' explores the complexities of the American health care system and the influence of public opinion and interest groups on policy-making processes. Additionally, he is a faculty associate at the Center for Health Policy Research and has held leadership positions in various committees and boards related to health and policy research.
