Biography

Mark Pirwitz, M.D., FACC, is the Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Dell Medical School. He is also the president and CEO of Ascension Seton Heart Institute, overseeing the cardiovascular service line for Ascension Seton. He has held several leadership roles, including director of the Ascension Seton heart valve program and co-director of the Ascension Seton Heart Research Institute. Dr. Pirwitz chairs both the Ascension Seton Cardiovascular Clinical Care Council and the Interventional Cardiology Committee, and he co-chairs the Ascension Health Interventional Cardiology Affinity Group. His research focuses on coronary interventional devices and transcatheter valve therapies, and he is recognized for his leadership in healthcare delivery. Dr. Pirwitz is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and is affiliated with the Texas Medical Association and the Travis County Medical Society. He received his M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed his Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center as well as an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the Mid America Heart Institute/St. Luke’s Hospital.
