Biography

Mark’s passion lies in working with aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs as agents of change, utilizing technology for good. He is a successful entrepreneur, having founded a technology-led environmental remediation company that was acquired by a national firm. Following the sale of his company, Mark spent time at the Berkeley Lab in Silicon Valley, where he was involved in commercializing technologies under UC Berkeley’s Lab to Market program. A native Texan, Mark also served as Deputy Director of the Austin Technology Incubator at the University of Texas at Austin, which is the longest-running technology incubator in the United States. He is currently the Program Director of Engineering Design, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (EDIE) and holds the position of Distinguished Service Professor at the Integrated Innovation Institute. Prior to joining CMU, he was the Gemini Chair of Engineering Entrepreneurship at the University of Minnesota, where he created a new undergraduate minor in engineering entrepreneurship, established a student startup accelerator, and initiated a statewide program to scale up companies. Additionally, he co-founded the Minnesota Cleantech Consortium.
