Biography

Mark Sawicki is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at UCLA Medical Center, specializing in general surgery with a focus on endocrine tumors. He earned his MD from the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine in 1987. Dr. Sawicki completed his residency in surgery at UCLA School of Medicine from 1988 to 1995 and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery since 1996. In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Sawicki's research concentrates on the molecular genetics and biology of endocrine tumors. He particularly investigates the biological role of the MEN1 tumor suppressor gene and has received the National Cancer Institute's Shannon Award for his work scientifically linking the MEN1 protein known as menin to the activation of S-phase kinase (ASK) protein in the context of endocrine tumor development.
