Dr. Mark Steel

Biography

Mark Steel is a renowned professor in the field of statistics, currently affiliated with the University of Warwick. His research primarily focuses on theoretical and applied Bayesian statistics, with particular interests in distribution theory, Bayesian model averaging, spatial statistics, non-semi parametric inference, survival models, stochastic frontier models, and contingent valuation stochastic volatility models. Before his current position, he held the Chair in Economics at the University of Edinburgh from 1998 to 2000, and later moved to become the Chair of Statistics at the University of Kent at Canterbury. In 2003, he joined the University of Warwick, where he served as the head of the Statistics Department from September 2014 to September 2018. Steel has also made significant contributions to academic journals, serving as the Editor-in-Chief of Bayesian Analysis and holding various editorial roles in prominent journals such as the Journal of Econometrics and the Journal of Royal Statistical Society. His various roles in the International Society for Bayesian Analysis indicate his active involvement in promoting Bayesian methods in statistics. Steel's recent work includes focused research on Bayesian model averaging and stochastic models, with numerous publications reflecting his contributions to the field.
