Biography

Mark Storey is a Reader in American Literature at the University of Warwick. He is a founding member of the British Association for Nineteenth-Century Americanists and has held fellowships at the University of Virginia and the Houghton Library at Harvard. Storey has been nominated for four Warwick Awards for Teaching Excellence, winning one in 2021. His research interests include American literature and culture with a focus on the concept of 'genre', exploring connections between literary forms and broader sociological and political issues such as modernization, temporality, and imperialism. His current project investigates the role of genre fiction in the political landscape of the 1960s. He has also contributed to the emerging field of affect studies, particularly at the intersection of politics and narrative culture. Storey's notable publications include 'Time, Antiquity, and American Empire' (OUP, 2021) and 'Rural Fictions, Urban Realities' (OUP, 2013). He is engaged in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses on American fiction, overseeing dissertation projects on various topics related to American literature and culture.
