Dr. Mark Strama

Biography

Mark Strama is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Texas at Austin's Moody College of Communication, where he also teaches in the Plan II program. He has a distinguished career in public service and civic engagement, having served as the Director of the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life. Strama is a member of the Texas Ethics Commission and has a notable background in utilizing technology to enhance voter participation, founding a company that helped over 700,000 Americans fill out voter registration forms for the 2000 election cycle. His prior experience includes directing programs for Rock the Vote, a non-partisan organization that worked with the music industry to engage young people in political processes. Strama has collaborated closely with significant political figures, including Texas Governor Ann Richards and Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis. He graduated from Brown University with degrees in philosophy and political science. Outside of academia, he is married to Crystal Cotti, a reporter at Austin City Hall, and is a father to two daughters, enjoying life with their lazy dog.
