Biography

Mark Telford is a Principal Teaching Fellow specializing in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice. He holds an LLB (Honours) degree from the University of Aberdeen and an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice with distinction from the University of Edinburgh. He has served as the Director of Education and Deputy Head of the School of Law from 2016 to 2022, during which he developed a keen interest in legal education and led various curriculum reviews. His current research focuses on the challenges of contemporary criminal law theory and the doctrine's application concerning children and young people. Mark has also coordinated undergraduate modules in Criminal Law and Youth Justice at the law school, contributing to his active role in assessing and enhancing academic programs. He has been recognized for his teaching excellence through various awards, including the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence in 2018, as well as honors from the University of Southampton Student Union. Mark Telford has also participated in significant projects evaluating the influences of political changes on criminal justice policies in Northern Ireland and has been a member of several research groups.
