Mark Thachuk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on the dynamics of chemical reactions and processes using mathematical and computational techniques. He leads a research group investigating collision-induced alignment of gas-phase ions and the dissociation mechanisms of gas-phase protein complexes. Current projects include examining the alignment of non-linear ions and studying conditions that affect the dissociation of complex ions, including aspects of charge asymmetry during the dissociation of dimeric cytochrome c. Thachuk's work uses molecular dynamics simulations to model experimental conditions, facilitating the understanding of the mechanisms behind collision-induced alignment and other dynamics in chemical processes. He has an academic background with a B.Sc. from the University of Western Ontario, a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo, and postdoctoral experiences at Northwestern University and Queen's University in Kingston.
