Biography

Mark Turner is a Professor of Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Literature at King's College London. He has previously served as a lecturer at Roehampton University. Mark has held prominent administrative positions at King’s, including two terms as Deputy Head of the Department of English and Director of Graduate Studies. He is a co-founder of the Queer@King's research group and continues to be an active member. Additionally, he is a founding co-editor of the journal Media History and has held various research fellowships, including the Belcher Fellowship at St. Hugh's College, Oxford, and serving as a Senior Visiting Scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. His research interests primarily focus on the relationship between literature and media culture in the 19th century, as well as Anglo-American queer studies. He has authored significant publications, including monographs on Anthony Trollope and Oscar Wilde, and has contributed widely to topics encompassing journalism, photography, and queer studies. Turner has supervised over 20 PhD students on varied topics ranging from 19th Century Science Fiction to queer rural environments. His teaching emphasizes 19th and 20th-century literature and culture, intertwining literary studies with visual cultures.
