Dr. Mark Van Der Wilk

Biography

Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford, Mark van der Wilk runs a research group focusing on a range of topics within machine learning. He is particularly interested in automatically discovering effective inductive biases that improve decision-making with small amounts of data. Van der Wilk collaborates with industry, startups, and scientists to practically apply machine learning methods. Before joining Oxford, he spent four years as an assistant and associate professor at Imperial College London. He completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2017. His research interests include generalization in machine learning, Bayesian optimization, and developing training algorithms suitable for future hardware architectures.
