Biography

Mark Williams is a Master Lecturer in Finance at Boston University Questrom School of Business, with over two decades of experience in risk management. Since joining the finance faculty in 2002, Williams has taught at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His prior roles include being a senior trading floor executive and a bank trust officer at the Federal Reserve Bank. His expertise encompasses risk management in banks, hedge funds, and financial technologies, including virtual currencies and blockchain. He has received the Beckwith Teaching Award in 2008 and 2021 and was honored with the James E. Freeman Lecturer Chair in 2018. A frequent contributor to national media outlets, Williams has written for Bloomberg, Reuters, Forbes, and the Boston Globe. He authored the book 'Uncontrolled Risk' published in 2010, which explores the causes of the financial crisis and the collapse of Lehman Brothers. Williams has shared his insights on virtual currencies with Congress and at prominent institutions such as the World Bank. He also serves on the Board of Trustees at Lesley University and was part of President Biden's Election Campaign’s Economic Subcommittee in 2020. In 2022, he became President of the Boston Economic Club.
