Biography

Mark Wineberg is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph, where he has been since 2000. He holds a PhD from Carleton University, awarded in 2000. His research primarily focuses on models of behavior within computational evolutionary algorithms (EA) in complex environments. He examines how these models can benefit from advanced structures in evolutionary algorithms, exploring areas such as multi-population interactions and co-evolutionary systems. Wineberg's key research interests include component hierarchies, novel hierarchical EA systems, and the development of representational diagrams for designing and reasoning about complex systems. He also investigates multiobjective optimization using evolutionary algorithms, emphasizing the robustness of solutions in non-functional requirements. Wineberg has contributed to various conferences and served on editorial boards, including the Genetic Programming Evolvable Machines Journal. He has been funded by grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) from 2001 to 2011.
